Facets of Identity

Exploring the value I bring to my community

Shifting Your Inner Voice

“The happiness of your life depends of the quality of your thoughts.” ~Mark and Angel Chernoff

So one of the habits I have incorporated in improving my mindset is making note of the types of thoughts or internal dialogue I have and becoming more attuned to how I outwardly react in a given situation. Here’s an example. My father has been dealing with mental health since he was first diagnosed in 1974.

My father has been in and out of the hospital several times. I used to get very frustrated whenever I had to interact with his social worker, doctor or case manager and exude a very angry demeanor. Needless to say, interactions weren’t always productive.

Over the last three months, I have been working on being in tune with the types of thoughts I have and have been intentional in practicing keeping a certain focus. So this month I decided to focus on receiving experiences in my life as blessings. This has greatly affected how I am handling my fathers recent involuntary hospital commitment.
